For states who use the Federally-Facilitated Marketplace (FFM) the annual Open Enrollment Period (OEP) begins on November 1st and ends on January 15th. Outside of OEP, clients can enroll in coverage or change plans as long as they qualify for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP).
The deadline to enroll clients in ACA health insurance that begins on January 1st, 2025 ends on December 15th, 2024 at midnight Hawaii time. You must complete all client applications by 5 a.m. ET on December 16th, 2024 to secure health coverage on January 1st, 2025.
The deadline to enroll clients in ACA health insurance that begins on February 1st, 2025 ends on January 15th, 2024 at midnight Hawaii time. You must complete all client applications by 5 a.m. ET on January 16th, 2024 to secure health coverage on February 1st, 2025.
Enrollments after these deadlines will receive effective dates specific to the consumers SEP.
While HealthSherpa strives to ensure a stable enrollment platform, you may experience technical issues on December 15th and January 15th. There is a process to receive a deadline extension for applications that hit an error* before 5 a.m. ET on these dates.
NOTE: This year, if you encounter the Invalid Action error on December 15th and January 15th, in lieu of 3-way calling you will be directed to provide HealthSherpa with the associated app ID. This app ID will be submitted to CMS to receive an extension to secure health coverage on the respective effective date. This will help reduce wait times at the Marketplace Call Center on December 15th and January 15th.
For all other errors, please complete all steps below for each application to get included in HealthSherpa’s extension request:
Continue trying to finish the application: Your client's eligibility letter (see an example) may say the consumer is ineligible to enroll because there is no Special Enrollment Period (SEP) — this is expected and will not impact the consumer's ability to enroll.
Once you get your client’s eligibility letter, open it, and use it to fill out this form. To ensure the application receives an extension, you have until:
Noon PT on December 16th, 2024 to complete the application and get your client's eligibility letter to secure health coverage on January 1st, 2025.
Noon PT on January 16th, 2024 to complete the application and get your client's eligibility letter to secure health coverage on February 1st, 2025.
After these deadlines, do not reopen or make changes to your application until we email you. We will email you no later than December 19th and January 19th, respectively
If you follow these steps, you will have until
11:59 p.m. EST on December 29th, 2024 to make a final plan selection effective January 1st, 2025.
11:59 p.m. EST on January 29th, 2024 to make a final plan selection effective February 1st, 2025.
*These directions are only for people who hit technical issues leading up to the January 1st, 2025 & February 1st, 2025 coverage start date deadlines.
